After a year long drought on the work front I randomly received an email from a previous employer asking for me to design some pages for them. A student founded group at Northwestern created a spiral notebook free to students across the country by selling advertising on the divider folders. Any participating bookstore or business gets to design the cover and 4 front and back pages however they want.
It was a great gesture from my previous boss to think of me and pass along the opportunity. Unemployment is fun until it is no longer a choice. It couldn't have come at a better time! I have been painfully bored the last couple of weeks to the point that even trashy reality t.v. shows, my guilty pleasure, was not even entertaining.
Jumping the gun on the project I've started to create some layouts for the pages. Here's some of what I've come up with:

There will be more to come as the project progresses. I have also learned of this website called magcloud. Here you can create your own magazine and surprisingly it doesn't cost all that much. A 20 page magazine only costs $4.00 plus shipping. The site also acts as a marketplace for selling your personal magazine. Set the selling price and everything above cost is yours to keep. Hmm...sounds like the perfect set up for creating a unique and cheap portfolio!
