Through the adventures of Craigslist I found this art group that meets on Sundays at a bar and sketches together. I said to myself, "Self, Why the heck not? They draw, you draw; they drink, you drink; what could go wrong? Craigslist is always a reliable source right? Maybe?..."
Actually, the Drink 'n' Draw was tons of fun! Its in an inconvenient location so I'm going to check out a more local group that meets once a month, but I have gone twice to the one at the Goodfoot Pub and loved it. Every time its a different group of people so the first time I went it was pretty quiet, laid back etc. This last Sunday was louder, sillier etc. Its a bit awkward just because I'm still meeting all of the regulars, but I've really come to enjoy it. You can work on individual work or do collaborative drawings which happen to be my favorite. When you get stumped with your drawing and pass it on, its extremely exciting to see someone else add to the drawing and take it a completely different direction. The group is more comic driven whereas I tend to do more realism, so I find it good practice to keep up and break my traditional thinking and expand into new worlds. They haven't updated their website yet for this months sketches, but I'll let you know when they do.
So anyone in the pdx area whose got a hankerin' for sketchin', and drinkin', come check it out!
